On April 28th, the first session of the Seminar “Secularization, Religion, State” was held.

The lectures by Prof. Ilan Pappe whom UTCP invited from Haifa Univ. in Israel last year have been published as a book in Japanese language.

4月20日，UTCP旗下的年轻研究者汇聚一堂，召开了2008年度的启动研讨会“探讨共生的基础”。

The UTCP Fellows Symposium “The Horizon of Co-existence Today” was held on April 20. Three speakers--Junichi Kushita, Norihiro Furuhashi, and Koji Otake--tried to examine the idea of co-existence from their own perspectives.

On April 24, 2008, the talk session "Jacques Derrida: The Presence to the Other" was held at Shinjuku Branch, Junkudo Bookstore. The speakers were Satoshi Ukai (Hitotsubashi University) and Yuji Nishiyama (UTCP). The session was held to celebrate the publications of Japanese translations of Derrida's Tourner les mots and L'université sans condition.

In the seminar 4 of the UTCP Education Program "Brain Sciences and Ethics", we read "Decision Making and Free Will: A Neuroscience Perspective (Kelly Burns and Antoine Bechara. (2007). Behavioral Sciences and the Law, 25: 263-280.)".

高桥哲哉的欧文著作Can Philosophy Constitute Resistance ?作为Collection UTCP的第五册出版了。

Tetsuya Takahashi, member of UTCP, published Can Philosophy Constitute Resistance ?, as Collection UTCP 5.

New report on our activities:
In Session 12 of the 1st Seminar: "Reading Levy's Neuroethics", we discussed the chapter 9 "The neuroscience of ethics".

UTCP Education Program "Brain Sciences and Ethics" starts a new seminar. In this seminar, we read Jesse J. Prinz's The Emotional Construction of Morals.

Thanks to Professor Graham Parkes, UTCP had a chance to collaborate with scholars at University of Hawaii.

The new short-term education program "The Origins of Philosophy of History" starts. This program is organized mainly by Dan Morita and Koji Otake.

2008年3月25日，纽约大学研究生院与东京大学研究生院综合文化研究科的学术交流协定的签订仪式在纽约大学Torch club（18 Waverly Place, New York）举行。

In the morning of March 25, 2008, the formal signing ceremony of academic exchange agreement between Graduate School of Arts and Science, New York University and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, University of Tokyo was held at the Torch Club, New York University (18 Waverly Place, New York).

On April 11, we held a seminar by Mr. Muhammad Salleh (the Malaysian poet). The seminar was titled "Possibilities and Functions of Poetry." This is our first event of the new academic year.

The workshop started with Yasuo Kobayashi’s opening remarks on the problematic of “the epoch”.

New report on our activities:
In Session 11 of the 1st Seminar: "Reading Levy's Neuroethics", we discussed the chapter 8 "Self-deception: The normal and the pathological".

From March 22 to 31, Yasuo Kobayashi, Takahiro Nakajima, UTCP fellows (Dennitza Gabrakova, Misato Ido, Wang Qian, Kei Hirakura, and Kei Yoshida), and Satoru Hashimoto (the former UTCP fellow, currently Ph.D. student at Harvard University) visited New York University.

2008年3月6日到7日，UTCP与CEFC(Centre d’Etudes Francais sur la Chine contemporaine)共同主办的国际研讨会“中国传统文化在当代中国的角色”在东京大学驹场校区举行。

From March 6 to 7, the international workshop "The Revival of Traditional Culture and Confucianism in China Today" was held by Centre d’Etudes Français sur la Chine contemporaine (CEFC) and UTCP.

Four mid-term education programs ("Brain Sciences and Ethics," "Contemporary China in Philosophy," "Times and the Unconscious," and "Secularization, Religion, State") (re)start from April, the beginning of the new academic year in Japan.
