From March 20th till 22nd, I participated in the 11th Annual Philosophy of Social Science Roundtable held at Emory University, Atlanta. Below is its report.

Junichi Kushita and Shuhei Shimamura presented at the Tokyo Colloquium of Cognitive Philosophy (TCCP).

In seminar 5 of the UTCP Education Program "Brain Sciences and Ethics", we examine Moral Minds by Marc D. Hauser. In session 5 of this seminar, we discussed the latter first half of chapter 3 (pp. 111-138).

The short-term education program, "Philosophy and University," hold five academic meetings, a symposium, and a workshop. Its results were published as UTCP library 3 Philosophy and University, edited by Yuji Nishiyama (Miraisha, 2009).

Reflections on Sara Roy’s Talk "Learning from the Holocaust and the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict" (March 2, 2009)

“It is important to understand the very real differences in volume, scale, and horror between the Holocaust and the [Israeli] occupation and to be careful about comparing the two, but it is also important to recognize parallels where they do exist.”

On March 2 in 2009, IDO Misato, SAKAGUCHI Sayaka and KAWAMURA Aya participated in the course “Print and Popular Culture” offered by the department of Art History and Communication Studies of McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

In seminar 5 of the UTCP Education Program "Brain Sciences and Ethics", we examine Moral Minds by Marc D. Hauser. In session 4 of this seminar, we discussed the latter half of chapter 2 (pp. 85-110).

We published the sixth volume of the UTCP Booklet, Secularization and Laïcités.

We invited Prof. Jean Baubérot from November 23 till December 2, 2008 and hold two lectures and a symposium. This booklet collected these works.

The conference ‘Image as History’ was held on February 27th in University of Ottawa. Three members from Ways of Image, one of the 短期教育プログラム(Short-Term Educational Programs) at UTCP, IDO Misato, SAKAGUCHI Sayaka and KAWAMURA Aya, presented their papers in a panel session, along with Professor Eric Allina-Pisano, who teaches African History at the University of Ottawa. This conference was organized by Viren Murthy (Department of History, University of Ottawa), who visited UTCP last summer for his research, in cooperation with Kouky Fianu from the University of Ottawa’s program of Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
