We published the 27th volume of UTCP Booklet, The Sublime and the Uncanny, edited by Futoshi Hoshino and Kamelia Spassova.

We held the international forum “The Sublime and the Uncanny” at Sofia University, Bulgaria. This forum was co-organized by the Sofia Literary Theory Seminar (SLS), the Cultural Center of Sofia University, and the University of Tokyo Center for Philosophy (UTCP).

We published the 26th volume of UTCP Booklet, Métamorphose et Catastrophe : Colloque international à Sofia, edited by KOBAYASHI Yasuo.

We co-organized an international symposium “Metamorphosis and Catastrophe” at Sofia University, Bulgaria (from October 31 to November 2, 2013). The symposium was organized by Profs. Boyan Manchev (New Bulgarian University), Darin Tenev (Sofia University) and Yasuo Kobayashi (University of Tokyo). Around fifteen participants joined from Tokyo, Paris and Sofia.

On April 16th, 2013, UTCP invited Dr. Julia Jansen, University College Cork.

Last year, Professor Yasunari Takada (UTCP) launched a new lecture series titled “UBI SUMUS” (where are we?). This series aims at identifying where we are, both in a national and global context. On February 20th, 2013, the second of the series was held with Professor Tadashi Uchino (UTCP), Mr. Toshiki Okada, and Professor Cody Poulton (University of Victoria).

Humanities and Institutions (Yuji Nishiyama (ed.), Miraisha, 2013) was published.

The 7th BESETO Conference of Philosophy was held on January 5 and 6, 2013 at Seoul National University.

UTCP launched a new lecture series titled “UBI SUMUS” (where are we?). Organized by Professor Yasunari Takada (UTCP), this series aims at identifying where we are, both in a national and global context. On October 26th, 2012, the first of the series was held with Professor Masaaki Takeda (UTCP) as a speaker and Mr. Keiichiro Hirano as a discussant.

The Uehiro Research Division for Philosophy of Co-existence Opening Symposium "Ethics in Change" was held at the University of Tokyo on 16 June 2012. The symposium addressed the idea of co-existence between human beings, between human beings and nature, between human beings and technology, and between science and humanities. It brought these concepts together in a novel philosophical approach that encouraged an enthusiastic and fruitful discussion, a discussion that inspired deeper thought in this subject area, yet traversed the multitude of ideas with ease. Associate Professor Shinji Kajitani (University of Tokyo) was the leading moderator of the symposium.

A group of members from UTCP and the University of Tokyo attended the Tenth East-West Philosophers’ Conference (May 16-24, 2011) held by the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and the East-West Center.

On August 25th and 26th, a group of members from UTCP and the University of Tokyo attended ICCT Workshop “Rethinking Enlightenment in Global and Historical Contexts,” which was held at Peking University in Beijing, China.

On March 30th, a group of students from UTCP and Tokyo University, together with Prof. Nakajima, attended the symposium "Co-existence and Cultural Spheres: French Philosophy in Asia", which was held at the Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan. I’d like to share here some my impressions of this event, based both on my own experience and on the impressions I received from my co-participants.
