On April 21, the first Komaba Brain Café, titled "Plastic Brain, Flexible Society," was held at the First-year Activity Center. “Komaba Brain Café” aims at providing venues for a free and active dialogue with those who are interested in brain science, neuroscience, and neuroethics.

The eleventh volume of the UTCP Booklet, Whither Japanese Philosophy? Reflections through other Eyes, was published.

We published the seventh volume of Collection UTCP, Histoires de peinture entre France et Japon, written by Atsushi Miura.

We published the tenth volume of UTCP Booklet, UTCP Booklet 10 Philosophie et Éducation II.

On March 30th, a group of students from UTCP and Tokyo University, together with Prof. Nakajima, attended the symposium "Co-existence and Cultural Spheres: French Philosophy in Asia", which was held at the Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan. I’d like to share here some my impressions of this event, based both on my own experience and on the impressions I received from my co-participants.

We published the ninth volume of UTCP Booklet, Transaction in Medicine & Heteronomous Modernization: Germany, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

We published the sixth volume of Collection UTCP, Historical Essays on Japanese Technology, written by Takehiko Hashimoto.

We published the eighth volume of the UTCP Booklet, Enhancement, Society, Humanity.

　　　On March 16th 2009, the eighth lecture on understanding Islam was held in cooperation with the Research and Educational Project for Middle East and Islamic Studies at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.

Frontiers of Thought: A Dissolving World and Problems in the Epoch, edited by Yasutaka Ichinokawa and Yoichi Komori, was published (Iwanami Shoten). Tetsuya Takahashi also contributed to the volume.

Asian Port Cities 1600-1800: Local and Foreign Cultural Interactions, edited by Masashi Haneda (Singapore: NUS Press, 2009), was published. Table of contents is below.
