Report: Viren Murthy “Overcoming Modernity and Overcoming Capitalism”
Professor Viren Murthy (Otawa University)'s lecture about “Overcoming Modernity and Overcoming Capitalism” was held on July 10th.
Viren Murthy specializes in Chinese intellectual history and Japanese intellectual history. He critically examines theories of alternative modernity by reviewing the symposium about “Overcoming Modernity” from Marxist perspective. In this lecture, he introduced Sun Ge’s postcolonial interpretation, Richard Calichman’s Derridian interpretation and Wataru Hiromatsu’s Marxism interpretation of the “Overcoming Modernity” and he suggested a new possibility for understanding the symposium concerning overcoming modernity based on the theories of Georg Lukacs and Moishe Postone.
