Report: Seminar "Husserl on Culture and Interculturality"
11 May, 2008
Visiting Speaker Series
On May 8, we had a talk by Prof. Philip Buckley (McGill University, Canada). The title of his talk was "Husserl on Culture and Interculturality."
To think about the possibility of communication between different cultures, Prof. Buckley examined Husserl's social philosophy that we can discern in his so-called "Kaizo articles" in 1923-24. According to Prof. Buckley, there is an interesting ambivalence in Husserl's social philosophy. Through the ambivalence, we can discuss the possibility of communication between other cultures. In his talk, Prof. Buckley scrutinized how Husserl differentiated authenticity and inauthenticity in his Philosophy of Mathematics.
