Toshiki OKADA won as playwright the 49th Kishida Kunio Drama Award with Five Days in March in 2005, and as novelist the 2nd Kenzaburo Oe Award with The End of the Special Time Allowed to Us in 2007. The most recent dramatic work, Zero Cost House,* in which he deals with his own life, is an international collaboration with the Philadelphia-based “Pig Iron Theatre Company.” In it he tries to propose an alternative way of life in the post-Fukushima Era, getting some motifs from Walden; Or, Life in the Woods by Henry David Thoreau and the artistic activities of Kyohei Sakaguchi, “an architect who produces no architecture.”
