In the study of artificial life, we have been searching for a metabolic network that accounts for self-organizing engine for life-like behaviors. In the study of robotics, we have been exploring sensorimotor couplings and embodiment that account for cognitive behaviors. Both areas have made significant progresses in the last 10-15 yrs. Now we have to link between the two and it could be mediated by formulating a new kind of philosophy inspired by the recent progress in cognitive sciences that focus on the issue of the sense of agency.
Taking this opportunity, we gather people from tree different fields; philosophy of science, experimental cognitive science and artificial life, to refine and propose new challenges on natural and artificial systems capable of mindful behaviors.
