Korea’s 3rd Annual Eating Disorders Awareness Week (EDAW2025), hosted by the Submarine Rabbit Collective, will take place from February 24 to March 2, 2025, at Seoul National University's College of Human Ecology. This year's theme, inspired by Bruno Latour’s After Lockdown: A Metamorphosis, is “We should scatter as much as we can.” EDAW2025 brings together a diverse group of researchers, healthcare professionals, and individuals with lived experiences from Korea, the United States, Japan, Australia, and Italy to address the pressing issues surrounding eating disorders.

EDAW2025 aims to tackle the critical gaps in South Korea’s eating disorder treatment system, where the absence of public healthcare services, the high costs of treatment, and the lack of medical expertise have led to a significant crisis. The event will provide a platform for discussing innovative, collaborative approaches to reforming the system, emphasizing the essential role of those directly affected by eating disorders.

This week-long event will feature a series of panel discussions, workshops, and presentations by prominent figures in the field. Topics will range from the societal and medical challenges surrounding eating disorders in different countries to the impact of personal narratives and lived experiences. The program also explores intersectional issues, including the experiences of marginalized groups and the importance of integrating feminist and trauma-informed perspectives into treatment and advocacy.
EDAW2025 serves as a pivotal moment in reshaping South Korea’s approach to eating disorder treatment, marking the beginning of a global conversation on how to support individuals facing these challenges and create lasting change. By centering the voices of those most affected, the event offers a unique opportunity for cross-cultural exchange and the development of a new, more inclusive approach to mental health and eating disorders.
