For the series "Memory and the Body," UTCP has invited three speakers to give three lectures, followed by a workshop. The subjects are: "Physical Technology," "The Body and Music," and "Body Culture."

The second event of the series will be Mr. Tsuyoshi Nakagawa’s workshop “The Body and Music”. This workshop will focus on his iconographical study of medieval and Renaissance music, and will also involve dance. Drawing on his study of Istanpitta in fourteenth-century Italy, Mr. Nakagawa will consider the image of "pagan dance" from the pre-Christian dance that remained in Istanpitta as “memory”. The participants will physically experience "the body and music" from the Renaissance period, by dancing the court dances Pavane, Branle, etc. with Mr. Nakagawa’s recorder performance and with the instruction of period instrument player Ms. Nao Iizuka.
