[About the speaker]
Eric Cazdyn teaches cultural and critical theory at the University of Toronto, where he is affiliated with the Centre for Comparative Literature and the Department of East Asian Studies. He has published widely on the relation between aesthetics and politics, with special attention to Film, Japan, Marxism and Psychoanalysis. His books includeThe Flash of Capital: Film and Geopolitics in Japan (Duke, 2002),Trespasses: Selected Writings of Masao Miyoshi (Duke, 2010), and Something's Missing: Seven Theses After Globalization (written with Imre Szeman, Blackwell, forthcoming). Cazdyn’s lecture will be based on his most recently completed book manuscript (The Already Dead) about the contemporary connections among politics, culture and medicine.
