Objectives of the workshop:
The interest in traditional culture and Confucianism has become increasingly apparent since the opening and reform policy. Ambiguous and somehow paradoxical in the 1980s, it has become more specialized in the 1990s, gaining then momentum in the Academic world. Since the beginning of the current decade, the phenomenon has expanded, left the ivory tower and now reaches broader segments of the population. Yet, the dynamic that can be observed gives good reasons to believe that this trend is going to develop further on. The phenomenon is both complex and manifolds. Research on the matter is today scattered and various disciplinary fields hardly communicate with each other, especially out of China. However, it is important to initiate a trans-disciplinary research dynamic in order to better understand what is at stake and what significance the current trends might have for China and even beyond. In that respect, we hope that the workshop could be the starting point of the creation of an international network of scholars from various horizons interested in the topic. Such a network would make it possible to expand the scope of the research, to define more accurate orientations and to develop a variety of academic projects, including symposiums and publications.
