May 1968 in France is the only nationwide revolt in all of Western Europe since World War II. The largest general strike in the French history, it was held by the workers of every class.

On April 24, 2008, the talk session "Jacques Derrida: The Presence to the Other" was held at Shinjuku Branch, Junkudo Bookstore. The speakers were Satoshi Ukai (Hitotsubashi University) and Yuji Nishiyama (UTCP). The session was held to celebrate the publications of Japanese translations of Derrida's Tourner les mots and L'université sans condition.

The Japanese translation of Jacques Derrida's The University without Condition was published. This was translated by Yuji Nishiyama, and he wrote a long expository essay "Jacques Derrida and Education."

The symposium was a part of the open joint study “Philosophy and the University” , whose main objective was to reexamine the understanding of the university of various philosophers as well as well as the relationship between philosophy and the system and ideals of the university.

Here are published the proceedings of the Symposium “Philosophie et Education” held in Paris this January.

1月8日，在巴黎的国际哲学学院召开了UTCP与学院共同主办的论坛《哲学与教育 教、学——关于哲学与精神分析的教育》。这是继2006年11月第一届论坛之后的第二届，是由UTCP主导推动的计划。

On the 8th of January a forum took place at CiPH in Paris, organized by UTCP and CiPH under the title “Philosophy and Education: Teaching and Learning – about the pedagogy of the philosophy and the psychoanalysis”. This was the second meeting after November 2006 and was part of a project developed by UTCP.

11月13日，在据点负责人小林康夫的主题为“时代与无意识”的研讨班上，特任讲师西山雄二以其著作《作为抗议的文学——莫里斯·布朗肖的孤独、友爱、共同性》（御茶之水书房，2007年）为蓝本，做了题为《莫里斯·布朗肖与时代——从〈应来的书〉到〈书的缺席〉》的报告。

On the 13th of November, as part of Yasuo Kobayashi’s seminar “Times and the Unconscious”, Yuji Nishiyama, research assistant lecturer, made a presentation under the title “Maurice Blanchot and the times - From ‘the Book to Come’ towards ‘the Absence of the Book’”, based on his recent book Literature as Contestation – Solitude, Friendship and Community in Maurice Blanchot (Ochanomizu-shobo, 2007).

The short-term program “Philosophy and University – Genealogy of Modern Philosophical Theories of the University and the Future of Humanities Knowledge” has started. At the first meeting we discussed Bill Readings’ The University in Ruins, made a survey of the historical relationship between philosophy and the university and analyzed the present conditions of the humanities in the age of globalization.
