Yi Youngjae made the third report at the middle-term program “Contemporary Philosophy in China” under the title “The Postcolonial Action Movie as a Contact Zone – A Lawless World”. From the perspective of her field, cinema studies, Yi suggested the possibility that the space of Manchuria, charged with a national history memory, through the contact with the Western genre functioned as a stage of violence, escaping from the state authority.

The Second Report at “Contemporary China in Philosophy”

The second report at the program “Contemporary China in Philosophy”was also on the theme of “Authority and Ritual”. The title of Misato Ido’s presentation was “Taue-zoshi [Book of Rice Planting]– Memory Carved into The Land”.
Misato Ido analyzed the work Taue-zoshi, a collection of songs for rice planting, discovered in the end of Taisho era, focusing on the social context and the fictional aspect interwoven into it, thus offering a new interpretation.
