2008年3月6日到7日，UTCP与CEFC(Centre d’Etudes Francais sur la Chine contemporaine)共同主办的国际研讨会“中国传统文化在当代中国的角色”在东京大学驹场校区举行。

From March 6 to 7, the international workshop "The Revival of Traditional Culture and Confucianism in China Today" was held by Centre d’Etudes Français sur la Chine contemporaine (CEFC) and UTCP.

Yi Youngjae made the third report at the middle-term program “Contemporary Philosophy in China” under the title “The Postcolonial Action Movie as a Contact Zone – A Lawless World”. From the perspective of her field, cinema studies, Yi suggested the possibility that the space of Manchuria, charged with a national history memory, through the contact with the Western genre functioned as a stage of violence, escaping from the state authority.

The second report at the program “Contemporary China in Philosophy”was also on the theme of “Authority and Ritual”. The title of Misato Ido’s presentation was “Taue-zoshi [Book of Rice Planting]– Memory Carved into The Land”.
Misato Ido analyzed the work Taue-zoshi, a collection of songs for rice planting, discovered in the end of Taisho era, focusing on the social context and the fictional aspect interwoven into it, thus offering a new interpretation.

In this program three teams are working at the same time. Reports from the fellows, relating their own research interests to the topic of “Authority and Heresy” will continue for a while. This problematic goes beyond the period and region of “Contemporary China”. Kim Hang did the first report on 2007/11/02.
