Prof. Lou Marinoff's workshop "The Role of Philosophical Practice in Business" was held at Ito International Research Center (situated at the Hongo Campus) on May 22nd and 25th. Prof. Marinoff is Chair of the Department of Philosophy at the City University of New York, and is also known as the leading expert of philosophical counseling and philosophical consulting. On both days, business persons from a wide variety of industries came to participate in the workshop.

On September 12th, 2012, UTCP hosted a public screening and discussion of Kamanaka Hitomi's documentary film Ashes to Honey. Following the screening, Kamanaka-san joined for a lengthy discussion with the audience, moderated by David McNeill of Sophia University, and Mark Roberts of UTCP.

On April 16th, 2013, UTCP invited Dr. Julia Jansen, University College Cork.

Last year, Professor Yasunari Takada (UTCP) launched a new lecture series titled “UBI SUMUS” (where are we?). This series aims at identifying where we are, both in a national and global context. On February 20th, 2013, the second of the series was held with Professor Tadashi Uchino (UTCP), Mr. Toshiki Okada, and Professor Cody Poulton (University of Victoria).

We published the first volume of UTCP-Uehiro Collection, Bodily Existence in History and Culture, written by KAJITANI Shinji.

Tsuyoshi Nakayama and Yukihiro Nobuhara (eds.), The Encounter of Psychiatry and Philosophy was published.

The workshop “Philosophical Dialogue on the Mother” was held on April 6th (Saturday). We had Ms. Eri Matsukawa of Café Philo (an organization in Osaka) as the facilitator of dialogue, and Professor Tetsuya Kono and Mr. Yohsuke Tsuchiya as guests.

Yasuo Kobayashi published The Aporia of the Heart: Between Happiness and Death (Hatori Press, 2013).

On February 7th and 8th, I attended the Media Histories / Media Theories & East Asia symposium at U. C. Berkeley.
